Como is a beautiful suburb within the City of South Perth. Situated just 6kms from the Perth CBD and boasting some of the best and most frequently visited attractions in Perth, this suburb is a favourite among many looking to settle in a suburban area that still has a bustling city feel.
Originally comprising three large land grants owned by Christchurch farmer Edmund Hugh Comer, the land was subdivided in 1905 and took on the name Como Estate. It’s not known if this was a nod to the previous owner or a reference to the beautiful area in Northern Italy. Como experienced a tremendous boom in development during the 1950s and 1960s, which was followed by gradual growth into the 90s.
Looking at Como today, it is clear to see why these property booms occurred. Bound to the west by the Canning and Swan Rivers, this area delivers an array of prestigious schools, beautiful outdoor spaces and a thriving collection of restaurants and cafes. With a population of just over 14 000, Como enjoys a flourishing rental market, with a promising proportion of homes in the process of being bought or already owned. The largest proportion of residents sits between the ages of 25 and 49, with the vast majority of the residents being couples with no children. For those that do have little ones, the area has four local schools, including the prestigious Penrhos College. With an average cost of property sitting at $1,000,000, this area is becoming more and more popular for home buyers.
Things to be enjoyed in Como range from enjoying a relaxing game of golf at Collier Park Golf Course to enjoying a scenic stroll along the riverside or on the Como Heritage Trail. The area has a large array of walking paths and even has its own beach to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. While Como is typically a quiet oasis for the most part, the Preston Street Precinct is full of gorgeous restaurants and cafes that bring a lively and fun flare to the neighbourhood that most residents just cannot resist.
