Perhaps best known for the sweeping blooms of purple Jacaranda trees, Applecross is a riverside suburb located just to the south of Perth’s CBD. The suburb is predominantly a residential area, with a small commercial hub around the Canning Highway. Coupled with the river views, beautiful parklands and its proximity to the city, it is not surprising that many want to call this affluent neighbourhood home.
Applecross originally got its name from the Applecross Peninsula in Scotland. This history carries across to the streets, with many bearing names that have ties to the heritage of the Scottish highlands, such as Carron, Giarloch and Glenelg. The suburb is home to the only car race that has been held on the streets of Perth – the “Patriotic Grand Prix”, which was held in 1940. The race was a fundraising event to support the efforts of Allied troops overseas.
Looking at present-day Applecross, it’s hard to picture the cars racing around this pleasant suburb. With a population of just under 7,000 and a strong rental market, Applecross is predominantly made up of free-standing houses. Residents aged 50+ make up 28% of the market, with about half of the residents being couples with no children. The average property price of the suburb sits at $1,800,000 with a growth rate of 1.7%. The suburb has several schools within its borders for all ages; Applecross Primary and High School, Saint Benedicts School and Applecross Pre Kindy/Kindy. This suburb is perfect for families looking to settle down and raise their children.

Look no further than the beautiful parks along the waterfront, explore the Canning Bridge Arts Markets and soak up the artistic experience that is the Heathcote Cultural Project. We love a weekend brunch and coffee as much as any Australian, so we make sure to stop by Cheeky Boy Cafe in Ardross Street.
